About

This blog is about all things gardening, based on our central Texas (USDA zones 8 and 9—we’re in zone 8b) location —  where summers are harsh and winters are usually mild.

We are descendants from generations of farmers and gardeners who have been in Texas for over 150 years — they loved the land, enjoyed whatever edible plant was in season and farmed for food.

As gardeners, we enjoy learning about new ways to garden and generate healthy, productive plants for both aesthetics health.

Although we started with an in ground garden, we have slowly transitioned to 100% raised beds, and we understand that soil is a living entity that requires organic matter for sustainability. Therefore, we no longer use any box fertilizers or soil amendments and NO HERBICIDES. Soil is the one key element of food production that can no longer be ignored.

New to the blog this year (2017) will be discussions of soil and the use of culinary herbs for health maintenance. Don’t be surprised to see a few “weeds” re-classified as herbs — for health and well-being!

We hope you enjoy visiting this site as much as we enjoy creating and maintaining it!

Gardening is how I relax. It’s another form of creating and playing with colors. ~~~Oscar de la Renta
